Kling vs Runway (2026)

Short answer: Pick Kling if you mainly want realistic, natural-looking motion in short generated shots from a prompt or a still image. Pick Runway if you want a full creative studio: generation plus editing tools and several models under one plan. Both let you start free, so run the same prompt through each.

Both turn text or images into video, and they're #1 and #2 on our video list. Kling is built around its own video models and is strongest at realistic movement and physics. Runway is a creative toolkit: its own Gen models plus video editing, image, and audio tools, and its paid plans also include models from other labs (Kling among them, per Runway's pricing page). So the choice is less "which model" and more "one great generator" versus "a whole studio."

FAQ

Is Kling or Runway better?

Kling if realistic motion from a prompt or image is what you care about most. Runway if you want a full studio with editing tools and several models in one place. Runway is #1 and Kling #2 on our video list; the gap is small and depends on the shot.

Can I use Kling inside Runway?

Runway's pricing page lists Kling 3.0 among the models included on its paid plans, billed from your Runway credits. Kling's own app has its newest models (Kling 4.0 as of Oct 22, 2026), so check which version each one offers before you pick.

Are Kling and Runway free?

Both let you start free. Runway's free plan is a one-time 125 credits that don't expire, which covers a few short test clips. Kling also gives free credits to start; we couldn't read the current amount from its site, so check klingai.com.

Which one should I use for talking-head videos?

Neither. For videos of you (or an avatar) talking to camera from a script, use HeyGen. Kling and Runway are for generated footage, not presenter videos.

What about editing the clips afterwards?

Runway has editing tools built in. For a fast free editor with auto captions, CapCut. For podcasts and explainers you'd rather edit by text, Descript. All three are on our video list.
